Day 1
Overnight Flight Discover the beauty and timeless wonder found only in Greece. From the colorful Greek Islands to historic classical Greece, every day is filled with new and wonderful experiences. This fascinating tour of Greece begins with an overnight flight. Day 2 Athens, Greece Arrive in Athens – a cosmopolitan, lively city built around magnificent classical monuments and bathed in dazzling Mediterranean light. Your tour begins in the capital city of Athens. This evening, join your fellow travelers for a welcome dinner in Athens’ historic district, known as the Plaka. Day 3 Athens A morning city tour that introduces you to Athens and features the Temple of Zeus, the Royal Palace, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Olympic Stadium. Climb to the top of the Acropolis, the spectacular rock plateau in the center of the city containing the magnificent Parthenon and the Temple of Athena Nike. After lunch, learn about the antiquities at the National Archaeological Museum from a local guide, followed by a guided visit of the extensive collection of classical artifacts. Day 4 Athens - Mycenae - Nafplion - Epidaurus - Athens Today''s journey begins with a breathtaking drive across the Peloponnese Peninsula to the ancient city of Mycenae. Here a local guide accompanies you through the incredible excavations, including the 3,000 year-old Lion Gate, palace and royal tombs. Stopping at the beautiful fishing town of Nafplion, enjoy some time at leisure to explore this historic old city overlooking the Argolic Gulf. Later, travel to the legendary healing and cultural center of Epidaurus, which dates back to the 3rd century BC. The magnificent outdoor theater of Epidaurus is considered one of the purest examples of ancient Greek architecture. Day 5 Athens - Santorini Bid farewell to the mainland as you sail to the most spectacular destination in the Mediterranean, the fabled island of Santorini. Upon arrival, visit Oia, where the best views of the crater are found. Later arrive at your hotel and enjoy a typical Greek dinner. Day 6 Santorini This morning, travel through a fascinating landscape of vineyards, whitewashed chapels and volcanic cliffs. Make a stop in Fira to visit the Prehistoric Museum. Spend the remainder of your day on your own exploring the winding streets of the capitol, Thira, with boutiques, workshops and market stalls. Day 7 Santorini - Mykonos - Santorini Enjoy a relaxing ferry ride to Mykonos. Spend your day on your own exploring the charms of Mykonos. The beautiful island beaches beckon for a day spent relaxing in the Mediterranean sunshine. Don’t miss Mykonos Town, where mazes of narrow streets link the whitewashed buildings and traditional life continues amidst the bustling activity. You will want to stroll through the island’s elegant shops and enjoy the fresh seafood offered in the waterfront tavernas. Later, return by ferry to Santorini. Day 8 Santorini - Athens Today board the ferry back to Athens. Have the remainder of your day at leisure. Day 9 Athens - Delphi - Athens Visit the ancient city of Delphi, one of Greece’s most important religious centers during classical times. It was here that the famous Oracle was consulted to foretell the destiny of Man. A local expert guides you on a visit to the Sanctuary of Apollo, the Doric Temple and the Theatre. This evening enjoy a farewell dinner with your fellow travelers. Day 10 Athens - Tour Concludes Return home filled with wonderful memories of the ancient treasures and modern wonders of Greece.
Spend five leisurely nights immersed in the island splendor of Mykonos and Santorini. Join a local expert exploring Anthens' fascinating monuments including the famed Acropolis. Visit a Byzantine monastery in Meteora and learn about the devout lifestyle of the monks who live there. Explore the grandeur of Olympia, birthplace of the Olympic Games. Sample the finest wines in Greece during a winery tour on Santorini. Stop at a local studio to see painters at work creating beautiful Byzantine icons. In a traditional traverna you will feast on local cuisine and wine, and enjoy greek entertainment. Experience the excavations at Akrotiri. Tour of the sanctuary of Zeus and the Olympic Stadium. Package Notes: Please note that single accommodations are limited and are available on a first come, first serve basis. *The excavations at Akrotiri are occasionally closed to the public due to ongoing archeological work. During these closures a visit will instead be mad to the Archaeological Museum at Thira. The internal flights on this program are not included in the land price of your vacation. These flights need to be arranged and purchased separately if you arrange your own air. Internal flights are included with the air portion of your vacation if you purchase air through the tour operatore. Due to flight schedules, on the last day of the tour you may require a very early morning departure (as early as 3 AM) from the hotel. Return flights should not be booked prior to 8 AM. Depending on your gateway, a post night may be required in Athens at an additional expense. Many activities in this itinerary include walking on uneven terrain, or require significant walking at times. Some of the unique experiences, such as visiting historical areas, means accessing locations by foot because motorcoaches are restricted. If you require a walker or wheelchair, or have difficulty walking, you may not be able to access some of these areas and may want to consider an alternate. If you have not purchased air through the tour operator and wish to purchase transfers, you must transfer at our pre-scheduled times. Air passengers that bought air from the tour operator will depart from Athens, Greece airport. All transfers from the tour operator will depart from Tolo for the Athens airport. |
